Martin De Ruyter is a New Zealand Photographer and Artist who crafts jewellery in the tradition of Trench Art. Martin was taught how to make Trench Art by his late grandfather, James Fisher.
From the age of fifteen, James would make brooches from English three pence coins during tea breaks from making real spitfires for the RAF, in a factory near his home in Swindon, New Zealand.
Martin continues that tradition today and repurposes .303 and .202 calibre bullet castings into exquisite Poppy brooches. Every brooch is individually handcrafted and painted, each having their own unique charm and character.
